A curly cut that finally holds

Lily cuts curly hair dry, curl by curl, in her studio at Salon Lofts The Grove. The shape you see in the chair is the one you live with at home.

The method

Do you cut curly hair dry or wet?

Lily cuts curly hair dry, curl by curl, at her Curls Done Wright studio in The Grove. Curls do not lay the same wet as they do dry, so cutting dry accounts for every curl pattern on your head and keeps the finished shape blended. Every cut includes a detox and deep conditioning treatment.

A wet cut treats curly hair like straight hair that misbehaves. Water stretches every curl to a longer line, the stylist cuts to that line, and the line disappears as the hair dries and springs back unevenly, because no two curls on one head shrink alike. That is how shoulder length becomes a triangle by Thursday.

Dry cutting reverses the order. Hair is shaped the way it grows and the way you wear it, so shrinkage is built into the cut instead of discovered after it. You can see the result across patterns in the transformations gallery, and the full services menu shows where a cut sits alongside color and a styling lesson.

“Curls don’t lay the same wet as it does dry. Cutting your hair dry ensures that I’m taking care of every curl pattern on your head so that your cut is blended.”

What happens in the chair

01

The sit-down consultation

Every appointment, new or returning, starts in conversation. Lily reads your pattern, your history with stylists, and what your mornings look like before any scissors come out.

02

The dry cut, curl by curl

Your hair is cut dry, in its natural fall, one curl at a time. Each pattern on your head gets accounted for, so the finished shape is blended and stays true as it grows.

03

Detox and deep conditioning

Every cut includes a detox and deep conditioning treatment with Innersense Organic Beauty; hers is the only chair in the building that carries it. Returning clients can book the treatment on its own for $125+.

04

Styling, taught as it happens

Lily styles your curls and walks through every product and motion so you can repeat it at home. New clients take home four full sized products, and the Customized Curl Styling Lesson is on the menu when you want the full curriculum.

Wavy, curly, coily, and kids

Who sits in this chair

Wavy to coily, one specialist

Lily has spent 6 years specializing in curly hair, and the menu reads that way: loose waves, springy spirals, and tight coils each get their own appointment length and price. Like every Missouri cosmetologist, she is licensed through the state’s Board of Cosmetology and Barber Examiners. Most heads carry more than one pattern, which is what cutting dry, curl by curl, is built to handle.

Kids curly cuts

Curly kids sit for the same considered cut, priced on their own line: $100+ for a first visit and $75+ once they are established. The at-home routine is taught at the chair, so wash day at your house stops being a guessing game.

The Deva question

Is a Deva cut the same as a dry curly cut?

A Deva cut is one branded name for the dry-cutting family Curls Done Wright works in. Lily holds no Deva certification and does not sell a franchise method. She cuts curls dry, one pattern at a time, and every appointment includes a consultation and a deep conditioning treatment, so the shape is built for your head.

What a curly cut costs

First visits run longer and include the new client kit, so they are priced apart from returning appointments. Both include the consultation and the detox and deep conditioning treatment.
